Experience works like The Sorcerer ’ s Apprentice , “ Mars ” from The Planets , and the finale of Shostakovich ’ s 5th Symphony like never before as they are remixed with electronic beats and layered with vocal stems of Post Malone , Muse , Drake , and Kanye West in this symphonic showcase meets Halloween rave .
When we closed our concert halls at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic , the BSO was well on its way to making critical financial and institutional changes . As evidenced by the extraordinary five-year agreement with our musicians , and in a year in which we found new ways to share music when it mattered the most , we have continued to make substantial progress . In a vision created collaboratively by all stakeholders , it is my pleasure to present to you the next milestone in our transformational journey : A Season of Discovery .
As we return to the hall this season : we will introduce new voices — on the stage , score , and podium — by presenting the incredible work of diverse artists ; we will expand our digital reach through livestreamed performances and more content after a year of serving more audience members , from schools to retirement homes , than ever before ; we will challenge the way you think about all genres of music ; and , perhaps most importantly , we will discover new leadership through a multi-year international Music Director Search and a robust search for our next President and CEO . While a Music Director will not be identified this season ( or possibly next ), you will be introduced to the world ’ s most talented conductors as we seek out the best artistic leader for our community . There are a lot of exciting changes as we discover what it means to be back together again , and we hope you will join us for this journey .
Our ability to return to the concert hall with such momentum is a reflection of great resilience , passion , and determination from our musicians , staff , and , of course , all of you , who have continued to support us during the time that we needed you most . So , it is with great pride for what we have already accomplished and in eager anticipation for what is to come , that I welcome you home for the 2021-22 Season of Discovery .
