ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Diana Newman
Diana Newman brings “ fresh and intense ” performances to opera houses and concert stages across the U . S . and Europe . A recent graduate of the Lyric Opera of Chicago ’ s Ryan Opera Center , Newman performed the roles of Frasquita in Carmen , Pedro in Don Quichotte , Clorinda in La Cenerentola , Papagena in Die Zauberflöte , and the Page in Verdi ’ s Rigoletto , a role she debuted with the Los Angeles Philharmonic under Gustavo Dudamel at the Hollywood Bowl . Additional recent performances include the Palm Beach Opera as Adele in Die Fledermaus , the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra in Carmina Burana , and the Alabama Symphony for Beethoven ’ s Symphony No . 9 .
On the concert stage , Newman has appeared as a soloist in Maria Schneider ’ s Winter Morning Walks at the Lucerne Festival , Barber ’ s Knoxville : Summer of 1915 with the Eastern Sierra Symphony Summer Festival , and Vivaldi ’ s Gloria in Havana , Cuba . Her debut with the Grant Park Music Festival came in 2016 , appearing as Curly ’ s Wife in Floyd ’ s Of Mice and Men .
Newman has attended numerous programs including the Ravinia Festival Steans Music Institute , SongFest , and the Fall Island Vocal Arts Seminar run by Stephanie Blythe .
University of Maryland Concert Choir
The University of Maryland ( UMD ) Concert Choir comprises singers chosen by audition from across the College Park campus . The ensemble has established a national reputation for excellence in a wide range of symphonic literature .
The ensemble made its Baltimore Symphony Orchestra ( BSO ) debut in 2013 under the baton of Marin Alsop in performances of Benjamin Britten ’ s monumental War Requiem . They have appeared with the BSO many more times

University of Maryland Concert Choir
since , with works such as the Mozart Mass in C Minor , Brahms ’ Ein deutsches Requiem , Stravinsky ’ s Symphony of Psalms , and in 2019 , the world premiere of Roxanna Panufnik ’ s Across the Line of Dreams . In 2022 they performed Holst ' s The Planets and Debussy ' s Nocturnes with guest conductor Peter Oundjian .
In 2019 , the Choir made its Carnegie Hall debut with the National Symphony Orchestra and Gianandrea Noseda in acclaimed performances of Liszt ’ s Dante Symphony and Rossini ’ s Stabat Mater . The UMD Concert Choir has also performed with many of the world ’ s leading conductors , such as Christoph Eschenbach , Iván Fischer , Nicholas McGegan , Donald Runnicles , Markus Stenz , Masaaki Suzuki , and Nathalie Stutzmann .
Maryland State Boy Choir
Now celebrating its 36th season , The Maryland State Boychoir , under the direction of Stephen A . Holmes , serves as Maryland ’ s “ Official Goodwill Ambassadors .” The Boychoir
Maryland State Boy Choir
performs 100 times annually throughout Maryland and on national and international tours that have taken them to 35 states and 17 countries . The choristers have sung at many distinguished venues , including the White House , National Cathedral , St . Patrick ’ s Cathedral , and the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts .
Boychoir musical programs have included performances at the American Choral Directors Association ’ s national conferences in Salt Lake City and Baltimore , The Polar Express with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra , Puccini ’ s Tosca at the Modell Lyric Opera House , Beethoven ’ s Ninth Symphony with the Bach Concert Series , Mahler ’ s Third Symphony with the National Orchestral Institute at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center , performances of Howard Shore ’ s Fellowship of the Rings Symphony with the Baltimore Symphony , and Andrew Earle Simpson ’ s A Crown of Stars with the Cantate Chamber Singers .
