Jedi Master Yoda teaches Luke Skywalker the ways of the force in Star Wars : The Empire Strikes Back as the BSO performs John Williams ’ unforgettable score live .
At our core , the BSO exists to create joy , inspiration , and human connections through music . As featured in this edition ( pg . 10 ) and in our 2020 – 21 Annual Review ( now available on BSOmusic . org ), the BSO has forged new pathways to create and share music at a distance . And while we continue to engage audiences through creative points of access beyond our walls and online , it must be said : it is wonderful to be back together to experience our extraordinary Orchestra live and in-person .
The power of music was on full display for Opening Night on September 11 . For all who were in attendance , thank you for joining us for such an important commemoration and collective milestone . I hope the program — and the feelings that roused five standing ovations — will continue to live on in your memory as it does in mine .
In fact , every program this season – including the debut of Artistic Advisor James Conlon and the return of Music Director Laureate and OrchKids Founder Marin Alsop — has been met with resounding applause . If today is your first BSO concert back , or first concert ever : welcome and I encourage you to join us in sharing your response effusively with our musicians and your fellow patrons alike .
