W ith memories of a full month of holiday concerts still in our heads , we celebrate the arrival of a new calendar year . The year 2023 will have special significance for the Baltimore Symphony as we prepare to welcome Jonathon Heyward as our next Music Director and announce exciting plans for our 2023 – 24 season . Please stay tuned for our new season announcement at the end of February !
While Jonathon won ’ t be returning to the Meyerhoff and Strathmore podiums with the BSO until May , he is busy fulfilling his duties as Music Director Designate throughout the 2022 – 23 season . Making frequent visits to Maryland and participating in countless Zoom meetings , Jonathon is already participating in auditions , season planning discussions , strategic planning meetings , Youth Orchestra and OrchKids programming , patron engagement activities , press interviews , and much , much more . Over my career , I have never seen a more engaged and involved Music Director Designate !
Over the months of January and February , the BSO will continue to work with a wonderful array of talented and inspirational conductors . We hope that you , our audiences , are enjoying the refreshing mix of new and returning conductors selected in partnership with BSO musicians . During this part of the 2022 – 23 season , our musicians will be collaborating Mario Venzago , Yue Bao , Artistic Advisor James Conlon , Eva Ollikainen , Kwamé Ryan , Anthony Parnther , Music Director Laureate Marin Alsop , Associate Conductor Jonathan Rush , and , of course , Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly . Please plan to attend Jack Everly ’ s final Pops performances as our beloved Principal Pops Conductor for what will most certainly be celebratory and fun concerts : “ Revolution : The Music of The Beatles . A Symphonic Experience .” January 12 – 15 and “ Rodgers , Hart , and Hammerstein ” February 23 – 26 .
