FROM THE PODIUM by Jack Everly
I ’ m so excited for our audience to experience “ Revolution : The Music of The Beatles . A Symphonic Experience .” I ’ ve worked with this group before , and I love how they bring such incredible musicality to the legacy of these songs . There is something so wonderful and original about the music that The Beatles brought to the world . These songs may never be surpassed in brilliance .
As a child , I was quite the musical snob : my sister was going wild for The Beatles , but to me , if it didn ’ t sound like Tchaikovsky , I wasn ’ t interested . Then , in the late 60s , I discovered an album : Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops Play The Beatles . I loved orchestral music , so I bought the record , and it changed my mind forever . I realized how much was going on within the melodies and contrapuntal ideas that made it just as interesting as classical music . Rock and roll wasn ’ t really my style back then , but these songs made me stop and
appreciate music in a new way . I was able to see a connection between my love of musical theater and The Beatles : truly great songs , ones that tell a story and target emotions , are timeless and will be great songs in any genre . And whether you love rock and roll or musical theater , I think we can all appreciate truly great songs .
The lush orchestrations and visual components will add more layers of interest as well . We were lucky to have a wonderful artist make videos that comment and shed light on the music , giving us a glance into rare photos of the band and a sense of what it was like for the Fab Four at the height of their fame . Additional elements will help set the mood and vibe of the 60s , creating an overall effect that will transport us to a different time and place . I love that we can bring this music to the symphony audience , and I hope everyone will have a truly enjoyable experience .
