Rafael Aguirre
Rafael Aguirre is one of the most soughtafter guitarists internationally, having won 13 first prizes in competitions such as the Tárrega Competition and the Pro Music in New York. Named Associate of the Royal Academy of Music in London, he has performed in 47 countries and received the National Award“ Cultura Viva” in Madrid.
In the 2024 – 25 season, he toured the U. S. with San José Symphony, debuted in Colombia at the Cartagena Festival, and performed at the Casals Festival in Puerto Rico.
He’ s appeared at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Verbier Festival, Vienna Konzerthaus, and Seoul Arts Center. He has collaborated with Lang Lang, sopranos Fatma Said and Hera Hyesang Park, and cellist Nadège Rochat.
With a repertoire of over 30 concertos, he has performed with major orchestras and conductors including Jesús López Cobos, Thierry Fischer, and Leonard Slatkin.
His discography includes releases on Naxos, KSG Exaudio, MDG, Ars Produktion, and Warner Classics, with honors such as the BBC Music Magazine Award and Gramophone Award.
He studied in Málaga, Düsseldorf and London, and currently lives in Mexico City.
