BALTIMORE SYMPHONY YOUTH ORCHESTRAS

One of the top youth orchestras in the state, the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestras( BSYO) grew to 419 young musicians across four ensembles.
The BSYO once again held weekly rehearsals at Towson University and performed every concert at the Meyerhoff, while providing students with regular opportunities to share their talents through performance experiences with the Orchestra and in chamber music ensembles at events across the region.
Students from top BSYO ensembles had two particularly special opportunities in the season. In March, 134 BSYO students helped to open the State’ s annual Maryland Music Educator Association( MMEA) conference at the Baltimore Convention Center, performing Mahler’ s First Symphony. And in June, 73 BSYO students joined in a nine-day international tour to Portugal, performing as part of the Lisbon International Youth Music Festival and Cistermúsica – Alcobaça Music Festival.
I am honored to fund a full scholarship each season. I consider this just one way in which I can give back to a group of students who have given me so very much.
Dr. Christopher Cicconi, BSYO Principal Conductor, Tour & Scholarship Fund donor
Through endowed funds, special gifts, and widespread support of the BSYO Tour & Scholarship Fund, the BSYO was able to provide a deeply subsidized or free path to annual tuition for 52 students, as well as ensure international touring was an option for every family.
