Westfield State University
Westfield, Massachusetts
Founded in 1838 by Horace Mann, Westfield
State University was the first co-educational
college in America to disregard race, gender
or economic status in the education of its
students. With an enrollment of 5,950 in
2012 and inclusion in the top 40 public
institutions in the North according to US
News and World Report, WSU anticipates
growth and facilities improvements,
and desired a Landscape Master Plan to
complement its Campus Master Plan.
Completed in February, 2014, the Westfield
State University Landscape Master Plan
serves as a guide for design and construction
professionals and in-house staff, providing
landscape direction for future campus site
and building projects. The overarching goal
is to create a consistent, cohesive vision
for the landscape, which strengthens the
campus identity and contributes to the safety
and aesthetics of the site, while streamlining
material choices faced by individual projects.
