For over a decade, the firm has been working
with this extended family on this wooded,
coastal landscape. Inspired by childhood
memories of this property and the love of this
landscape, the foremost goal was to maintain
the strong and meaningful connection to
this familiar landscape. This project is about
creating a landscape that brings a family
together around a sense of history and
place; one that both maintains and builds
memories. Important functional and visual
relationships sought a balance for privacy
and independence for the client while also
encouraging interaction with the other
families living on the compound. Embedded
into the woodland and emerging out of it into
to the open became an organizing principal for
both the home and landscape.
