Washington Beech is a reimagined
vibrant community of 206 affordable
housing rental units in Roslindale,
Massachusetts. The project consisted of
replacing a blighted, rundown public
housing development with a welcoming,
attractive and safe neighborhood for its
residents and the surrounding community. The site’s dark and dead-end spaces
were replaced by a series of tree-lined
streets, a sun-filled plaza space, a park, a
playground, and a community garden.
This network of public spaces knits the
community together, while private front
gardens and rear patios give each resident a private space to call their own.
