Host & Hospitality Committee Charged with assisting conference attendees to help guide them around our great city, this committee led by BSLA President-elect Tim Nickerson, Kyle Zick and Todd Robinson have been pushing the limits of available technology to amazing lengths. Augmented Reality ‘AR’ will make its debut at the BSLA Chapter Host Booth. This evolving technology has the potential to revolutionize the profession of Landscape Architecture. By using an application such as Aurasma on your “smart” device (phone/tablet), a 2D plan or image can ‘play out’ on as a video, still image or photo montage on the smart device. This allows our Boston visitors to “experience” an augmented virtual reality of Boston area outdoor places and spaces during full warm weather foliage season even though the Boston area in Mid-November will be in or more likely past peak fall foliage season. (More about the augmented reality project Featured speakers inclu on page 93). One of the frustrations of heading to a city is, although you may be familiar with the location of major attractions, you might not know where to find a good cup of coffee to start your day. With that in mind, BSLA has taken on the role of Chapter Ambassadors. In four of the nine host hotels, we will have volunteers and information available to attendees to help them navigate the new face of Fort Point (Convention Neighborhood), Boston as well as New England. We live in a terrific area loaded with things to see, great places to eat but it may be tricky to navigate if you haven’t spent much time here. Volunteers are needed and can sign up for time slots at: bit.ly/bslavol. By volunteering, you will be entered into a raffle to win one of the six Apple iPad minis used at the Host Chapter Booth for each completed shift.
