BSLA Programs
Over the past year, BSLA continued to grow partnerships
with allied organizations. In partnership with the Boston
Society of Architects and the Arnold Arboretum, BSLA
co-sponsored several programs that document, landscape
architects, wide-reaching talents.
With the Arnold Arboretum, BSLA hosted a lecture entitled
“Bioengineering” by Duke Bitsko, Director of Interdisciplinary
Design at the Bioengineering Group. Bitsko presented a
thorough review of non-conventional, low-impact, sustainable
design strategies used on a wide range of storm-water
management, wetland restoration and watershed
protection projects throughout New England.

Eran Ben-Joseph, Head of the Department of Urban Studies
at MIT and author of Rethinking a Lot – The Design and
Culture of Parking presented how parking lots could be
significant public places, contributing as much to their
communities as great boulevards, parks, or plazas. This lecture
was co-sponsored with the Boston Society of Architects.
In collaboration with the Urban Design Committee of
the Boston Society of Architects, a panel discussion about
Urban Agriculture was held. Panelists from both the public
and private sector discussed the support, benefits and
implementation of urban agriculture. The zoning change
process required to enable urban farms, lateral benefits to
youth and community, as well as a newly launched “how to”
resource center for urban farming were also covered.
In addition the the knowledge gained through attending
lectures, members have the ability to earn Continuing Education credits. Through BSLA’s efforts, attendees eligible to
earn CEU’s from the sessions.
Collaboration with organizations like BSA and the Arnold
Arboretum bring like-minded professionals together to learn
about common topics of interest. BSLA continues to partner
with organizations such as these to enhance your benefits.
