Springfield Orchard grows with open space movement

Mark Lindhult drew curious stares from motorists
and passersby as he sat tranquilly among a
makeshift apple orchard/cranberry bog/blueberry
patch on Main Street.
“It’s fun to hear the feedback,” said Lindhult, a professor at the University of Massachusetts at
Amherst’s department of landscape architecture
and regional planning.
Lindhult was among a group of landscape
architects, students and faculty who took turns
manning the exhibit at the corners of Main and
Union streets on Friday in honor of National
Park(ing) Day.
