The Central School Campus ReWilding South Berwick , Maine
The video tells the story of a landscape architect walking in cold in 2009 into the local elementary school to talk to the principal about a vision for a campus landscape renovation to emphasize nature play . Instead of being dismissed , the pro-bono vision was embraced . Presentations for approval were made to the school district and the PTO borrowed school district ‘ seed ’ money to begin the project . A local food author initiated the construction of a hoop house and the school community pitched-in to build the entire Master Plan for the “ re-wilding ” of the campus . Innovative climbing mounds , meadows , and a native botanical garden have re-invigorated play and brought “ kids to school in a happy better place .” Energetic teachers with a progressive administration have grown the project into an Outdoor Classroom as the curriculum has been extended into the landscape and the school has adopted technologies to observe landscape patterns .
