MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Fall term at the College saw much activity beyond the customary bustle that accompanies the ushering in of the academic year . A theme of old and new seemed to permeate the season , and a particular sense of harmony in these complementary forces was evident .

In August , as we welcomed our first-year students , Cooper and Goodenough Residence Halls also opened their doors for the first time . We kicked off the inaugural season of women ’ s soccer and saw the groundbreaking and turf installation on the General Ronald K . Nelson Field . These developments carry an auspicious energy as they not only depict progress and growth , but they also represent our gratitude and esteem for past professors and coaches who have helped propel us forward .
Charter Day celebrations continued this theme of honoring the past , dwelling in the present , and working with discipline and confidence toward the future . Alumni gatherings , dedication ceremonies , and benefit concerts were well attended as long-standing connections were revived and new bonds were forged . In this issue of the Alumni Magazine you will see a review of that special weekend , including articles on our 2016 alumni
award recipients . Also included is a fun look back on how things used to be at the College in the 1950s and ’ 60s , straight from some of the alumni who experienced it .
Within these pages , tributes to long-time faculty members Sonia Werner , Ph . D ., ( AA ’ 71 ) and Carroll Odhner offer a review of their legacies and a glimpse into the new projects that each is pursuing now . Our faculty and student spotlights are joined by an update on our internship program and an introduction to our new career education and development program .
I hope that you enjoy this issue of the Bryn Athyn Alumni Magazine , and that it serves to keep you informed , connected , and inspired . This living , breathing institution is mission-driven , and people like you who believe in its purpose bear out that mission in so many important ways . Thank you for your continued relationship with the College and for allowing us to share our news with you .
