About Brooks and Company Matt and Christy Brooks are the owners of Brooks and Company. They met in 2007 and were married in 2009. Matt is from Quitman, Ga. and went to school at Valdosta State University and graduated in 2002 as the proud recipient of a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He moved to Griffin in 2005 for a local job opportunity in sales for a company he currently still flourishes in and enjoys working for. Christy is a born and raised Griffin resident. She takes pride in attempting to grow her hometown’s local business market. She graduated from Griffin Tech in 1991 with a diploma in Cosmetology. She later completed courses in Social work from UGA. Then in 2008, she completed her courses for Financial Advisor with HFMA. In 2009 she received her career diploma as a Private Investigator. With all of her experience and education, she still found she had a passion for local business and wanted to grow that in her hometown. Together they started Brooks and Company in 2011 in an effort to show that repurposing and “up-cycling” could be a cost effective, “Greener” way of life. Matt took his lead from Christy and began creating things from items that had lost their luster and love. He found a passion and a hobby that he never knew he had. Soon they found that they had more items than they could use and began a venture in online sales of these wonderful “new” items. A dream began to grow to show tha t being unique and creative could make a house a home. In 2012 they decided that they wanted to test the waters and offer their items in a store front setting. They looked around at the options and settled on a local booth rental shop. It wasn’t long before they realized that their dream was larger than that arena. Later in 2012 they found the perfect home for their business in the historic downtown Coca Cola building, which has now been dubbed “The Avenue” by its new owner, John Carlisle. The history behind the building adds to the concept of repurposing that Brooks and Company is all about. The new setting for Brooks and Company has opened up many opportunities to expand in areas that Christy has a great passion for. They have added a larger selection of purses and accessories and a bath line that far exceeds what has previously been available in our local community. Matt and Christy are huge supporters of local small business and embrace every opportunity to add something to the community that it has not previously been able to offer. Brooks and Company’s mission is to continue to add new products in an effort to show that you do not always have to resort to big box names to meet your household or personal needs. In June 2013 Christy began working with the City of Griffin Main Street Program in an effort to show her support to the community and all small business owners trying to make a difference. She continues to work daily to be a support to those around her. We started Brooks and Company in an effort to offer local businesses a chance to showcase what they have to offer and how it benefits our community. This publication is an effort by Brooks and Company to show that your local community currently offers what it needs to grow with your support. We thank you for taking the time to read it.
