before going home to rest. The donation itself takes
10 to 20 minutes, but with preparation and followup, expect your dog to stay for about an hour. You
are welcome to leave your dog with us for a few
hours or even the whole day if that is more convenient for you.
Qualified Canine Blood Donors Must:
Weigh over 55 pounds
Be between one and six years old
Have a friendly disposition
Be in good health
Be current on vaccinations
Not take any medications except for heartworm
preventative or thyroid medication
Never have received a blood transfusion
Benefits
As a blood donor, your dog will receive health benefits valued at over $1,000 per year. You do not have
to be a Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital client to be part
of the donor program. Your dog can continue seeing
your primary care veterinarian as we respect that
relationship. The only difference is the benefits received.

Initial blood work including blood typing and
heartworm test
Annual wellness exam including rabies, distemper
and leptospirosis vaccinations

Six months of heartworm protection after four

$15 medical treatment credit for each donation
