Brochures July 2016 A Safety Culture Exceeding Requirements | Page 2
Making certain your school’s safety is our priority.
Safety in schools is paramount. With Programmed Property Services you can be sure that we make
certain of this when working at your school.
A zero harm safety culture permeates our entire organisation. Corporately, safety is an operational discipline.
Individually, each one of us believes in safety. Because only if there is a personal belief in safety can safe outcomes
be sustained.
How we work to keep your school safe:
Established policies and processes
Our Occupational Health and Safety policies
and processes include safety inductions,
staff training on work in schools and around
children, as well as drug and alcohol testing.
Specific safety awareness pertaining to
your school
Site-specific inductions particular to your
school mean our staff know of your school’s
safety and emergency procedures, restricted
areas, policies, rules, contact details etc.
Common standards for safety
Across the business, we practice the
same strict safety procedures modelled on
international, Australian and New Zealand
standards and laws. This means no matter
where your school is, safety is stringent and
always the same.
Robust daily risk and hazard management
Every day, before starting work, we ask ‘What
could go wrong?’ or ‘How can I or anyone else
be injured?’ And we take the correct steps to
manage these.
Equipment and uniforms
You’ll know we are on site – with clearly
identifiable uniforms, correct protective
clothing and safely cordoned off work areas.
We only use safe, well-maintained and fitfor-purpose equipment, which is checked
daily before use. Staff are fully trained and
competent, even where high risk activity like
height access or elevated work platforms are
involved.
Regular communication
We regularly engage and communicate with
you, keeping you informed of scheduled work,
progress and any safety matters.
Strong Safety Track Record
Be assured of our ability to make safety a
certain priority. We are proven to be safe.
In FY2015/2016, we worked more than 37
million hours and had a Lost Time Injury
Frequency Rate of 1. This includes employees
as well as, where possible, contractors –
whom Programmed views and manages
as employees in terms of safety. Not many
companies are able to say this.
Involving you in safety too.
Your safety partnership is important too. We welcome your participation and invite you to join our
safety conversations and OHS processes, so that together, we can all remain safe.
A site safety plan unique to your school
Safety starts even before we begin work at your school. Prior to any work starting
we undertake a formal site risk assessment of your school to identify risks or
hazards particular to your site, with specific safe work methods developed to
manage these from the onset. These form your school’s unique Site Safety Plan
which guides all the work we do for you.
But it doesn’t end there. Throughout the time we are contracted by you, we
constantly update this Site Safety Plan. We record safety checks and any safetyrelated matters we may observe – even if not directly related to the service we
provide you. We inform you of these, but you can also ask to view them at any
time.
