nature camps COAST GUARDIANS Grades 3-4 If you envision spending the summer by the shores of Lake Michigan learning about a unique beach habitat, the interesting creatures and plants that reside there, and the water that sustains them... and would like to swim, canoe, bike, and hike along the beach... then Coast Guardians is for you! Activities Campers will heighten their awareness of the beach surroundings by becoming expert environmentalists and scientists while discovering the importance of water and the beauty of the Great Lakes. Your child will enjoy active games and hands-on activities that focus on team building, strategy, insight into the natural world, and of course, fun! Weekly field trips may include biking and hiking at local ravines and beaches giving campers the opportunity to get to know the unique habitat of Lake Michigan. Campers will enjoy instructional Introto-Swim lessons at the indoor pool at Recreation Center of Highland Park. (We highly recommend you supplement the introductory lessons with a swim lesson/class offered through Recreation Center of Highland Park. Call 847.579.4051 for details.) Be a Coast Guardian this summer – you’ll meet some wonderful new friends and learn about one of our country’s most important Great Lakes! Important Information Campers are supervised by a certified lifeguard while swimming at the beach. Staff members are certified in Red Cross first aid and CPR to ensure campers’ safety at all times. The camper to staff ratio is 8:1. Campers must bring a sack lunch and beverage to camp every day. They will receive a t-shirt and water bottle on the first day of camp.
