Since its founding in 1916 by C. Francis Jenkins, an inventor from Dayton, Ohio (When it was only “SMPE” – the “T” being added after the emergence of television), SMPTE has developed more than 800 standards, recommended practices, and engineering guidelines for cinema, television, Internet video, audio, and associated metadata. It remains the bedrock upon which all media is based. A monumental achievement by any standards!
