Lisa, an Angel I Got to Know
By Barclay
The stories and themes are set to Mother’s Day. The warming spring days finally melting the winter’s snow and breaking the cold as the darker days, longer nights get replaced in the slow steady march beyond the Ide’s of March. In the moment of the writing, the words are placed at Easter. This story has a history written about for last year, but has its genesis years ago, almost in a different world. This piece of the story is about and for Lisa. It is her real name, though her mother’s name, and specifics will not be revealed here due to not wishing to divulge that privacy.
Lisa, I know your mother. We have been friends for quite a number of years now. She and I met before I knew you, as you had already been called into heaven. I know too that you still watch over your mother. This story is of her love for you. Never-ending. Never in doubt. Love from a strength only a mother can endure. Her bonds in the short time you were on this earth grew so strong, that I have a palpable feel for just how close you two were. Even as she held you as you were risen above your human existence, she was never letting go. Your mother even after your passing, was very protective, having hidden you with in her walls for most of the first year we knew each other. Hidden, but not from being ashamed of you, just not letting anyone get near her precious child.
Your mother poured her life into you, loving every single minute, second, she had with you. As she began to discuss and share the myriad adventures you got to do, it seemed like so much more than just the few short years that passed before you were taken. Walks in the park, listening to the birds, finding the pretty flowers, and telling tales of fact and fiction. So much to cover when your mother knew your time was short. And she did. Tirelessly. She went through a lot, holding onto the love she had, while being doubted by anyone around her including family. As your mother began to know me and feel a trust, she began to light up again. I was taken on the journey of your life, both before and after your passing. Lisa, it was beautiful, it was painful, it was colorful, and it was colorless. It flashed in light, while some of it was so dark. One thing that was vividly clear was your mother’s love for you. No one was ever going to dim that light. Your mother is an amazing impressionist artist, so many visions within the canvas that tell your story and her journey as she has moved through the emptiness of not holding you, seeing you as she had here on earth. Your mother is a very smart woman, you would be as proud of her, as she was of you. Her tenacity expressed in caring for you while you fought for your earthly existence, has been transferred to so many things in her life. The smile on her face is yours, the beam in her eyes is yours. So beautiful, so enduring.
Lisa, as your soar with the angels, I hope you see where your mother has gone in the years beyond your life. I hope you see that Mother’s Day will forever be the saddest and yet the proudest day for her. So as another Easter passes, just beyond your birthday, and we travel the calendar into Mother’s Day, hugs, peace, and please know, as you watch from above, I will also forever keep your mother close and just be what she needs, when she needs it. In life we always have wants never realized, but alas, perhaps later beyond the years I will meet you.
