AEN Vision
The AEN Department are dedicated to the students it supports , taking a holistic approach to their wellbeing and success . They are an essential part of BRIT , offering specialist provision which recognises and celebrates our students ’ talents and skills . The team has created a space which is safe and inclusive , where all our AEN students can feel secure in themselves , and in their potential .
AEN and Admissions
We look forward to receiving applications from candidates with AEN needs . Please make sure you do the following :
• Tick the AEN box on the application form
• Give as much detail as possible about your AEN and how it affects you
• Tell us if you have an Education Health and Care Plan ( EHCP ) and attach a copy as indicated in your application
• Tell us if you have access arrangements / exam concessions
Sharing this information will help us provide appropriate support through the Admissions process to ensure that your AEN does not disadvantage you . You must , however , still meet the Strand requirements as per the Admissions Policy . We abide by , and fully support , the Equalities Act of 2010 .
AEN Support at BRIT
• We adapt our support to meet the individual needs of applicants .
• We support students with needs across all areas :
• Cognition and Learning
• Communication and Interaction
• Social Emotional and Mental Health
• Physical and Sensory Needs
The first line of support is Quality First Teaching from teaching staff . This is supplemented by a range of support from the AEN Team as needed . This could include the following :
• Whole class LSA support
• Small group sessions
• 1:1 sessions
• Intensive English and Maths support
• Assistive Technology
• Referrals to external services
We also have a range of specialised staff who work across the school :
• Key Stage 4 Transition and Progression LSA
• Post-16 Transition and Progression LSA
• EHCP LSA
• Social Emotional and Mental Health LSA
• Emotional Literacy Support Assistant
