Welcome to the 10th edition of the British Water
Members’ Handbook. The Handbook has become
essential reading for anyone in the water industry,
particularly those who need an easily digestible guide
to the technical and operational expertise available
from British Water’s members and the innovative
solutions they offer to meet the challenges of today
and tomorrow, both at home and abroad.
On a personal note, I was pleased and honoured to
be invited to become the Chairman of British Water,
having admired its work for some time and recognising
its innovative contribution to the wider industry.
I would like to pay particular tribute to Tony Williams,
my predecessor as Chairman, for his leadership and
commitment, and for setting such a good example in
the role.
As the lead representative and business development
organisation for the supply chain of the UK water
industry, British Water has considerable scale, skills and
a proven track record of success. But we’re not resting
on our laurels – far from it. We will continue to focus
on serving your needs and championing our members’
interests in the corridors of power.
Furthermore, considerable progress is being made to
innovate further; to become increasingly engaged with
the wider industry network, collaborating more and
speaking with a clear, united voice when and where

it warrants it; and to adapt to the changing and often
uncertain world around us, including making the most
of Brexit in whatever form it takes.
But what strikes me most about this great industry
of ours is its people – their pride, passion and sheer
professionalism. I look forward to us all working
together to deliver continued success and ever-more
innovative solutions as we seize the opportunities that
lie ahead.
