Net Zero
Entering a new phase of net zero
This Autumn, the Construction Leadership Council( CLC)’ s Construct Zero programme will publish its new Performance Framework, reflecting the new priorities set out in the Committee for Climate Change’ s 7th Carbon Budget.
Construct Zero, launched in November 2021 at COP26 in Glasgow, provided a Performance Framework comprising of around 30 metrics across nine priority areas( underpinned against the Committee for Climate Change’ s then 6 th Carbon Budget), each of which told a story of how the sector is reducing its carbon emissions in areas such as across construction activities; the resulting buildings and structures; and the transport of products and materials. The programme helps, supports and informs a growing cohort of over 300 businesses in the sector( and beyond) with their Net Zero plans, providing them with advice on how this will impact their clients and markets.
An example of this is Baxall Construction who has committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2045 and is delivering its Carbon Reduction Plan against a 2018 / 19 baseline, with a 23.2 % reduction against this baseline already achieved, while operational carbon emissions across its office. Offices and construction activities have reduced by 34 %.
