However, Bentivegna says the most important thing to have is a lasting piece of furniture. “Trends come and go, but if you buy a solid piece of furniture you can change the color,” she said.
Buying wood furniture is important because it will last a long time.
Furniture is not the only thing people enjoy at antique shops. According to Pellissier, jewelry is popular too.
Rusty Rooster also has vintage linens located at the back of the store.
Barns, abandoned homes, and sheds! Oh my!
For old pieces to become accessible to these store owners, sometimes they have to go to unconventional places. “We go to some scary places like barns, storage sheds, and some scary houses,” Pellissier said.
According to Pellissier, one of the most interesting places that she’s been to was an old three story house in Saint Francisville. “It had multi-generations of things. We were called out to come and see it and we found a lot of good things,” she stated.
Dupree says he visits abandoned farms for his furniture, but he also gets to travel to different auctions.

Bentivegna says her favorite piece that used to be in the Rusty Rooster was a piece her daughter got from Dallas. “It was a cowboy bathtub. It was so fabulous,” she said. A cowboy bathtub is a huge metal bathtub.
Dupree says he enjoys the large industrial work benches. “People wouldn’t normally incorporate them into their home, but with a little bit of styling they look good,” he said.
Rescued Revisions has a few work benches used in showrooms across the store. They are mostly used for dining room table sets.
Pellissier says she enjoys the Mid-century chair she has in the Pink Elephant. “It’s an Adrian Pearsall,” she said. Adrian Pearsall was a famous furniture designer.
“It’s very collectible, mod, and stylish,” Pellissier says about the chair.
The furniture in these stores may be older than its customers, but its uniqueness will draw them to it.
