CLASSROOM
Placing Books in the Hands of
Children
Read to Rise creatively builds
the library of books in the
classroom which assumes that
the more books available to
teachers the more they are
inclined to integrate books into
the everyday routine of the
classroom. However, because it
is understood that the
availability of books does not
guarantee immediate use of the
books, the Read to Rise
classroom rotation offered the
immediate momentum for the
use of the books, placing them
in the hands of children.
The R2R book rotation
encouraged children to use the
books, to develop a routine and
and encouraged dialogue
amongst their peers and
families. Teachers facilitate the
rotation process and families
support and encourage their
children at home.
There is also recognition that
the Read to Rise program will
only work if the administration
is willing to embrace new ways
to encourage reading and are
open and flexible to
innovation that supports
children’s learning and
development. Administration
must see Read to Rise as a
worthy program, as a resource
to the school and as a
complementary program in
support of their school's
curriculum and responsive to
their children and family needs.
Read to Rise is
purposefully packaged
for easy implementation
with burdenless
orientation, preparation
and implementation
