Read for the Record Day is a glimpse into the key principles
and philosophical framework of the Read to Rise programme
where the Read to Rise (R2R) books are the tools of
engagement and the process of engagement used are known
student centered and evidenced-based learning strategies to
encourage reading and learning. Read to Rise process
supports and embraces the 21st century student learning
and innovation outcomes known as the (4)
C’s: Communication, Critical Thinking, Collaboration and
Creativity.
R2R builds classroom libraries and quickly gets books off the
shelf through book rotation into the hands of children at
schools while facilitating incentive-based reading, art and
writing activities in a literature- rich classroom environment.
Building a culturally competent reader is a special feature of
Read to Rise through the BG T& T sponsored Caribbean
authored children books and the collaborative developed
children’s books developed by UWI students of the
Department of Creative and Festival Arts using Guayaguayare
students inspired stories as a way to reaffirm their
experiences and heritage and to develop the next generation
of Caribbean young illustrators and writers.
