Read for the Record Day is a glimpse into the key principles and philosophical framework of the Read to Rise programme where the Read to Rise (R2R) books are the tools of engagement and the process of engagement used are known student centered and evidenced-based learning strategies to encourage reading and learning. Read to Rise process supports and embraces the 21st century student learning and innovation outcomes known as the (4) C’s: Communication, Critical Thinking, Collaboration and Creativity. R2R builds classroom libraries and quickly gets books off the shelf through book rotation into the hands of children at schools while facilitating incentive-based reading, art and writing activities in a literature- rich classroom environment. Building a culturally competent reader is a special feature of Read to Rise through the BG T& T sponsored Caribbean authored children books and the collaborative developed children’s books developed by UWI students of the Department of Creative and Festival Arts using Guayaguayare students inspired stories as a way to reaffirm their experiences and heritage and to develop the next generation of Caribbean young illustrators and writers.
