THREATS
Other retail stores with similar pricing and similar styles.
Sir Philip Green an owner of several stores (Topshop being
one) claims that the outburst in online retailing is reducing
opportunities and the need for outlet stores, so nonetheless
this is a positive outcome for the online system, it reduces the
opportunity for those who prefer to shop in store. (Hiscott,
2014) Campaigns from support groups of those with anorexia
were outraged by the poor model choice used to advertise
Topshop’s clothing brand. Karen Easthall who runs the support
group pointed out that one of the models used by Topshop
was a size 0 and looked too healthy to model as it sets bad role
models for the youth. They were later forced to take the model
off their page. (Dewsbury et al., 2011) Threats from mental
health support groups potentially could have a larger effect
on the Mass market as a number of brands within this sector
have also been found to use unhealthy models to advertise
their brand. For example; H&M have been classified as the worst
retail clothing brand for using unhealthy models due to their
model Anna Ewers who had a waist-to-height ratio of 0.34.
According to the NHS the healthy waist-to-ratio is 32. (Rainey,
2015)
