Greetings Fellow Batchers , Hoping this newsletter finds you all well and ready for maybe a half ass normal Summer . So damn sick of hearing “ in these uncertain times ”, “ we ’ re all in this together ” and “ wear your mask ” I could just scream . Both Susan and I were fortunate that our businesses weren ’ t really affected by all this crap . I feel so bad for our local bars and restaurants who had to really take a hit during the last year . Of course , with not many shows to attend and most of the major ones being cancelled it really changed the landscape as we know it in the collecting world . I ’ ve never sold as many parts and repaired signs as I have in the last year . I guess without shows to go to people had some extra cash to spend on their favorite hobby . I know the prices on eBay have been outta sight lately . It goes to show you the hobby is still strong and can adapt to just about everything .
Traveled down to Omaha a couple weeks ago to their annual Spring show and it was a major success . They had to move the venue from Ralston Arena to a Comfort Inn Hotel so maybe the accommodations weren ’ t quite as nice but there still two huge rooms full of tables and beer stuff . Large Bird and myself came home with a truckful of goodies . Thanks Cornhuskers .
Since we had to cancel the board meeting at the Bear ’ s Den a few months ago chapter member Nick Dylla has graciously offered up his place for the upcoming meeting . If you haven ’ t been there before you owe it to yourself to attend and check out Nick ’ s place . Let ’ s just say he has a little bit of everything and always a couple different beers on tap . Following up close behind is our show at the Schell ’ s Brewery . We have moved this show up on the calendar several times because the weather never seem to cooperate with us so hopefully , we have a nice Spring day to celebrate our hobby this year . We have a food truck coming in this year to help out the chapter so we don ’ t have to deal with all the food and clean-up . Hopefully Schell ’ s will have the gift shop open for us too .
Sounds like all three major shows are still on schedule with two of them pretty close . NABA being in Milwaukee and BCCA being in St . Louis makes either pretty easy to travel to by car so both should be well attended since both were put on hold last year . Of course , the 2nd annual Bird ’ s Nest show in on the docket and now that the Nest is much more finished than the last show it ’ s shaping up to be epic . Rumor has it we will have a live band for Friday nights hospitality night and we are in preparations to have overnight camping , etc . right next door in addition to both real nice hotels less than 10 minutes away in Blue Earth . More details to follow through out the Summer .
Both Tom and I have been attending the BCCA board meeting virtually via Zoom and we recently voted in Roanoke Virginia for the Canvention next year . The chapters involved are very to be selected and it should be a great show in a part of the country that hasn ’ t hosted a Canvention before .
One thing we will need to discuss is our annual fundraiser / Christmas party . That time will be here before we know it and it would be nice to at least have an idea in place how and when it ’ s going to be run this year . Anyone with ideas be sure to speak up as it ’ s everyone ’ s chapter and we want to make sure all members have a say and input if these choose . Don ’ t hesitate to call me with any questions , suggestions or concerns . Have a great Summer and hope to see yam all at an upcoming meeting or show .
