With that for you to marinate on, I will make further comments. First, we need to realize everything changes, time is
a factor here. As society changes, so does everything else. While I most certainly agree with Joe Prin, I see big
money as one factor that is killing this hobby and there is no going back. It has become a business and that was an
inevitable outcome over time. Now that s not saying, you need a bank account like Bill Gates. You can build a
collection for cheap, just that the desirable stuff will be out of reach. There are plenty of good times and fun to be
had and that stuff is free. I also wish, NABA, ABA, BCCA, ECBA and whatever else would just consolidate and
become one entity. This will happen but, not until they are gasping for their last breath. Traditions die a hard and
painful death and even then, you sometimes need to take out your six shooter and finish it.
As far as collecting stuff, I just do not really care much anymore. If I pick something up that s fine but, my
collecting flame is down to a flicker. I try to be a promoter, an ambassador, so to speak. I and many others I know
have done, and are doing just that. We try and I know, I try. The old saying, you can lead a horse to water but, you
can t make him drink, I think applies here. Collectors are born not forced. What do you do to expand and get new
members? How much more advertising can you do? You have Internet, Websites, Facebook, Twitter, Newsletters,
Newspapers, Flyers, Media, Social Media and the list marches on. What you can do and ought to do, is what Joe is
saying, welcome these newbies and have them feel like they are part of something, be part of the fun. Guess that s
all for now.
Till next time,
