Fish mongers throwing salmon
Dave and I sat up and had a few more beers and that was a nice time because we just walked around and that ’ s where we had just our time together . You know how you show off your collection . You have stories about different pieces . I got to hear stories of how he acquired things or something that made things unique . If you ’ re not familiar with his collection , which a lot of people are but he ’ s mainly northwest breweries such as Rainier , Olympia . They call him Oly Dave in fact . We made him some glasses on the laser with a little help from Barry Travis on the design , that said “ Oly Dave ”. It was a fantastic collection to enjoy and a beautiful time . Sunday morning it was time to head south to the Casey Ranch in Oregon . We were almost to the state line when Judy realized that she had left her wedding dress at the Unwin house . And God bless Dave , he was home alone that day and he jumped in the car and met us halfway because we had to turn around and go back . We met up and he had Ozzy Carlson with him . And we were able to get the dress and get back on the road . Such wonderful people we have met and made friends with because of this crazy hobby of collecting beer signs .
On the way through Portland , we were able to drive on the Terwilliger curves and underneath Terwilliger Boulevard , which is something I ’ d always wanted to do . Mike and Kimberly live on about six acres , about 45 minutes South of Portland . We arrived at Casey ’ s , and settled in . We met their dogs and looked over their place and then went out for a nice supper that evening . We got back to their house speakeasy in the basement and Haylee Jo had to give them the password and she finally got us in , we sat down at the bar and had a wonderful time . We visited , and I think I drank more Hamm ’ s than I probably have in a lifetime . Then Kimberly says you must try some tequila , so we had a few shots of tequila and maybe one or two more after that . We sure had a lot of fun visiting with them and a really good time . We enjoyed their collection , all their Hamm ’ s signs . We made some glasses for their tavern as well . In the morning we headed into town , Kimberly came along , and we went to a place for breakfast . They were a little slow as their help hadn ’ t shown up and it was Labor Day holiday . Once we ate , we headed off across the Cascade Mountains . A beautiful drive . There ’ s a lot of 30 mile an hour turns and twists as you ’ re going through the Cascades . Once we got past there we got on some flat ground and started hammering down . Their speed limits on the twolane roads out there are 70 miles an hour . Continued on page 20
