The Bullock family was having a graduation celebration for Dakota Arbiter and wanted Miners and Judy and I to be a part of it and come spend the night at the Cable Table Tavern. We all agreed that would be fun and thought on the way up we might just as well take in the Summit Show and see what the North Star Chapter boys and girls were up to. Well it was raining that morning as we pulled into the brewery, not only was it raining it was extremely cold. I d worn my Schell s Outlaw coat knowing that it would be cold and wet but I sure wish I d taken a stocking hat and some gloves along as it was very cold trying to hold onto my beer in the parking lot at Summit. When we pulled in there were perhaps 15 people there. There was a couple of pickup trucks backed up back to back with a tarp stretched between them and everybody was huddling around underneath the tarp and popping out now and then to walk to somebody s car and look at a piece of breweriana. We didn t get there until probably 9:30 and we drank a couple of beers with some of the gang in the parking lot. We sang the Barly Travels rendition of the Grain Belt Premium beer song a few times. And eventually everybody decided it was time to throw in the towel and go someplace warm and dry. So we jumped in Stevan and Sue s van and headed off to see the Gopher Tavern. When we arrived the place was not yet open. So we went across the street and there was a new brewery being constructed that was nearly set to open. And next door to that was a really nice bar and restaurant with a pretty decent beer menu. So we rolled in there had a few and enjoyed the morning until about 11 o clock when the Gopher Tavern opened up then we headed across the street. Let me tell you this place is unique! It s just a bar, but it has a personality all its own. Some of the signs on the wall say things like we don t have any Effen coleslaw we don t take any Effen checks. Strangely enough there is a Confederate flag hanging in a bar in Minnesota. Their claim to fame is serving the best Coney in the Cities. Judy ordered a Coney and I had a Gyro. I will say they were both delicious and that was one fine Coney. I had a bite of Judy s. Definitely an interesting experience to say the least and I wouldn t hesitate to go back again sometime. Plus I d like to check out that new brewery across the street which is now open. Again reflecting on the weather and the fact that the Summit Show turned out to be a real bust. Because of it I again thought to myself, you know we had a pretty good show because at least we had the old taproom to get inside and stay warm and dry. Unfortunately at Summit they don t open the brewery until 12 noon and everybody petered out before that and went home. Hopefully the weather will be much better for both shows next year. But those are the perils of small outdoor or indoor outdoor shows. So until next time Prost! It s time for another round here at Tavern on the Ridge. Tom #28855 Page 5
