This years Stubiefest was one of the best! Friday night started off cloudy and cold, but the campers set-up and starting tapping the beer. A pizza buffet of some really tasty pies was devoured and washed down with Grain Belts and Deer Brands. Saturday morning we awoke to more clouds and cold. After a trip to town for showers, breakfast and an eye opener beer at the B & L Bar we headed back to the fest. This year we had enough funds to start advertising the show in the local paper to generate some walk-in traffic. That turned out to be a great move. The show had some good selling and buying activity. Steve Miner sold a Hamm s scene-o-rama and some other items. Murray, Stubie and Gator all were busy selling. Then a man from Sleepy eye walked in and opened up a cigar box full of Hauenstein items. He wanted to sell them and after a little advice from some fellow Border Batchers our President Larry Holm stepped up and offered the guy $ 500. He countered at $ 550 and it was sold. Larry scored 3 pretzel openers, some wallets, money clips, old ledgers and a small bottle shaped bake-o-lite piece with and old Hauenstein label on it. None of us had ever seen one. Larry sold a few pieces and started to recoup his investment. The Billy Can Shoot started around 10 and went till 1 o clock. Lots of Billy cans gave their all. Then they put a stuffed bear in Chicago Bears gear out and blasted it to smithereens. I saved the poor little guy and brought him home. Next year I ll bring the targets. The hayride / pubcrawl took off around 2 and headed for Smiley s, then the B & L and Mowans. Dave Berg Assistant Brewmaster at Schell s had a couple beers with us at the B & L. A stop at the Kegel Klub and then a beautiful ride down the river road and back to the fest. The sun was coming out and it was warming up some. Back at the fest it was time to eat. Let me tell you that was some incredible food. Barb s white potato s in white sauce, Kathy s hot German Potato Salad, Larry s Essig cabbage and pork and dumplings and Teddy s brats from the grill. Cooked with love and washed down with Schell s Beer. We had Wildfire Karaoke this year and they did a great job, joined the chapter and agreed to come back again next year. Sunday morning we had breakfast pizza and watched Vance drink a beer. Then it was time to pack up and head home. What a great time! Now I have to find a place for that Scene-o-rama.
