Brewings Brewings Vol 32 Issue 3

Greetings Fellow Border Batchers, Summer has officially kicked into high gear and anticipation is high to head to Cloquet for the Nordlager show in about a week from the writing of this article. I will have to take some notes after this show for my next article. This should help out with my newly forming long term memory loss. Knowing how this show goes I may have to take notes as things are happening! If I can decipher these hieroglyphics that should cover the short term memory loss suffered at these kind of events,( not to mention, random gravity storms). A few of the many hazards encountered while attending breweriana shows! Some information and details were lost from the Spring show / Schell ' s beer delivery, but I did manage to recover some files from my brain through hypnosis, and do have some highlights from the delivery Friday night in New Ulm. One of the houses we delivered to had about twenty or so people in the yard enjoying some libations. When we pulled up, they had formed a bucket brigade and handed the case from person to person all the way to the house. Very inventive and hilarious! A couple more beer stops and the old Dodge Rio piloted by Stormin ' Norman arrived at the residence of a local AM radio god, Brian Filzen. Pulling up to the house I noticed the people in the yard had handkerchiefs, Kleenex and tears welling up in there eyes. The two couples likened the event to there kids going to the prom or graduating high school, and rightly so. While helping ourselves to the beer and meat / cheese tray the crew noticed Filzen pulling a Tiananmen square trick and laid his body in front of the delivery truck so we couldn ' t leave. What a riot! This was only a few of the highlights from that weekend of fun. If you talk to any of the people that helped deliver, I ' m sure they have many more stories to tell. Once again, on behalf of all who participated, and the Schell ' s Borderbatch, I would like to thank Ted & Jody Marti, and Liz Prunty for including us in this wonderful event. The SpringDing was again a huge success with awesome weather this year and an excellent turnout. Way to Go, to all who attended and donated!
The Border batch " Business " meetings are becoming more popular. Different members are stepping up to the plate to host these events. My hope is that this trend continues as a way to draw new members, see some amazing collections, including nonbeer related items, and drinking someone else ' s beer. The most recent " Business " meeting was held at the Willis & Linda Schaefer farm. Willis & Linda, with help from Rollie and Tanley really threw down the old red carpet. Spectacular digs, collection, Lakemaid fishing contest, and Ma Schaefer ' s sauerkraut hotdish made for a great day. Thanks to everyone who had a hand in putting on the meeting. Coming up on August 7th is a " Business " meeting to be held at the lake home of Mike and Chris Anderson. I have already done a trial run / pre-trip inspection of this location and it really drinks well. You should not miss this one. Mark your calendar and get ready for some water fun as we will have two pontoons equaling forty four feet of floating boozing space, a speed boat, and Mike ' s Amphicar. This car / boat is about the neatest thing I have ever ridden in! Who knows, maybe we can talk Murray and Jay into eating a live Lura lake bullhead!? OK, with all this typing my beer is getting lonely on the end table so I bid you adieu with a quote from Benjamin Franklin. I think it would have been a blast to get drunk with this guy. " Beer is living proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." The dyslexic atheist might respond to that, " there is no Dog." Lets have one Stubie
P. S. Stubiefest and the Schell ' s 150th party are coming soon so don ' t forget to put your name on the liver transplant list.
