My fellow Border Batcher’ s there is big news and some big changes going on in the chapter right now. First let me appoligize for this newsletter being late, but with the remodeling project dragging on, and all the other things in life like work, more work and trying to keep up with beer things like the chapter and my personal hobby interests, plus some time to drink beer. Now back to the big news. For the first time in 15 years you will have a new chapter President this year as Jay Martin moves up from Vice President to President. Steve Miner will become Vice President and next year he moves up to the office of President. So for the first time in 15 years I’ ll have some time off the job. Don’ t worry, I’ m not going away. I’ ll have a seat on the newly( soon to be formed) Board of Common Sense. I’ ll still be Newsletter Editor and Webmaster( unless one of you would like to give it a whirl) and I may be your President again in the future. But I’ m grateful that someone else wants to give it a try. I’ ve always thought that with any organization leadership should change and people should step up and do their part to serve their club. No club should be under constant leadership by the same person. Things get stagnant that way. With change you get new ideas, some good, some not so good, but new and different and the good ideas will thrive. I look forward to seeing where your next two Presidents will lead the chapter as we head toward our 30 th anniversary. I hope I have done a service to this club and I thank everyone that has helped me get this far. So get behind your new club officers and show your support. If you want to be a future President of the club let me, or one of the other officers know and we’ ll present it to the Board of Common Sense for approval. Now, on to other business. On January 12 th we met at Steve Miner’ s house to film the video segments for the Border Batch movie. It will be cool and the videos turned out quite well. Our club is now having 2 annual meetings per year. The meetings will be hosted at the homes of club members who volunteer to host a meeting. This is your opportunity to show off your collection and get to know your chapter officers and other members. The first meeting is on February 16 th at Bryan Madsen’ s home in Owatonna, MN with a social hour from 2 till 4, meeting at 4 p. m. and a potluck and beer sampling. So put it on your calendar, bring a dish and some beer and your ideas and suggestion. Please RSVP so the host knows how many are coming. We’ ll also try to get a 1 / 6 th barrel of the new Schell’ s specialty beer they are brewing from old recipes as they prepare to celebrate 150 years. I believe this first one is a Doppel Bock. So make plans to attend. The second meeting will be in August at Larry Holm’ s residence near Essig, MN. Date to be announced. Remember to look for a progressive raffle prize we can purchase for the club and of course we need raffle prizes for our spring show at Schell’ s. As I leave the President’ s office there is still unfinished business that I hope will be carried out. We still need to purchase and install Stubiecam in Mark Stueber’ s garage so our members that can’ t be at events like the Christmas Party can log on and attend virtually. We have work to do on the Border Batch Hall of Foam at Dan Stueber’ s building where we hold Stubiefest. We need to make over the website and look for the website to continue being the focal point for chapter promotion and communication. The newsletter will get a new look with new columns. I still want to have a homebrew contest that the chapter sponsors. Lots to do! And I have faith it will get done!
Prosit!
