Brewings Brewings Vol 28 Issue 3

Greetings Border Batchers! Wow! Summer is half over and where did it go? We’ ve been very busy around the Terwilliger ranch. Redoing landscaping, building stairs and railings on the deck and putting on the lattice. This newsletter has some great reading including Jay’ s article recaps some shows and he rants about the big brewers. He has his usual quote which really sums up what we do and why. Bryan Madsen delves deep into the reason we collect old cans and brewerianna, and presents some very good theories on the subject matter and Murray takes us on a beer trek into Illinois and Wisconsin. Plus some interesting items on the auction block, the upcoming show calendar and the other things you expect in your quarterly dose of Border Batch news, brews etc. Seems like a long time ago since our show at Schell’ s, and before you know it Stubiefest will be here. Before I go into that let me say that we had a very good show again this year at the brewery, the crowd was good, there were lots of good items for sale and the raffle took in some good money for the chapter. The brewery show always refills the chapter coffer’ s with much needed cash to pay for things like this newsletter and other chapter things. Stubiefest is coming up September 14 th through the 16 th. We will set up camp on Friday afternoon, with a beer drinking session around the campfire Friday night. Schell’ s beer of course! Saturday starts off with a Billy Beer can shoot at 9 a. m. then the brewerianna show at 10 a. m. till 2 p. m. No table charge, but bring your own tables. Later for those who stick around there will be a hayride, followed by karaoke in the building at 9 p. m. till Karaoke Dan gets tired of playing the music. Sunday morning we all bring a little something for a potluck breakfast and break camp and head home. It is a good time that you won’ t want to miss. CANvention this year is in Denver and unfortunately Judy and I won’ t be going. Just had too much to do this year to the house and with
gas prices and all we just decided to spend our funds on the house. We are hosting a poor man’ s CANvention here at our place Labor Day weekend. Nothing fancy just beer drinking on the deck and whatever else. We need to sell more tickets for the Schell’ s crowntainer we are raffling off this year. So if you need tickets for this great can let me or Jay know and we’ ll make sure you get some. The Border Early Beers video project has been on hold until we can shoot some video for this great project. Hopefully that can happen in August and then I can work with Barry and Bryan to get it all pulled together. It will be a very cool DVD that will feature many old Border Batch and BCCA members past and present and a great trip down memory lane for many of you. We have ordered the 30 year Border Batch anniversary 12 ounce sham glasses. They are very cool and Barry Travis did a super job with the logo. We had a vote on 4 logo’ s and 4 sayings and the final version is incredible. The glasses will be here soon and for those that prepurchased they will be available, the rest will be sold during the anniversary year of 2009 and some will be donated to other chapters in return for their donations to our raffles. So far this has been a good year in beer and should only get better. We’ ll see you at Stubiefest, Guzzle and the Border Batch Christmas Party in December, or perhaps a tavern near you when you least expect it. Until next time Prosit!
