UNKNOWN WINTERSPORTS Words By Veerle de Boer, Looks By Milena Ivanova We all know ‘wintery sports’ as ice-skating, skiing and snowboarding and probably many of us were forced by our parents to go sledding when the first snowflakes were falling. Not to forget about the snowball fights we had with our friends. Can’t those be considered as sports, too?! Almost all winter sports range from ice-skating, skiing, snowboarding, sledding or already existing ‘allseason-sports’. We at Brewed think several winter sports, whether you (slightly) know them or not, do not get the attention they deserve. Therefore we would like to jump into the ins and outs of the winter sports below. Come join us! (you deserve a Hot Chocolate/Glühwein/Brandy at the finish line) Kite-skiing A winter sport that was first recognized in Europe, carried out on water, snow AND ice. Instead of gravity, a kite and a little bit of wind pull the sportsman forward. The kite is similar to those used for paragliding but since there is no need to lift the skier from the surface, the kites are usually smaller. In combination with downhill skis, kite-skiing is extremely fast and even tricks and stunts can be accomplished. Therefore kite-skiing is seen as one of the most exciting winter sports. According to us, this sport is pretty much kite-surfing on snow and ice! 16
