3.3 Attractions, Activities and Events Brewarrina Shire has a limited attraction base, with the attractions concentrated in and around Brewarrina. The key attractions and the facilities and activities offered are: Key Attractions Facilities Activities Brewarrina Fish Traps / Weir Reserve / Weir/ Fish Way /Ochre beds Basic picnic area. Very limited interpretation of the Fish Traps and the Baiame’s Ngunnhu creation story Information on the Fish Way Row of memorial trees with plaques – not maintained Unsealed, informal riverside walking tracks from the Weir downstream to the ochre beds. Viewing the Fish Traps (not always visible). Picnics Watching Aboriginal people catch fish when the river conditions are suitable. Bird-watching Brewarrina Aboriginal Cultural Museum Small exhibition space, featuring aspects of traditional life pre-European contact, the Fish Traps and life on the Brewarrina Mission. Small retail shop and surrounding grounds. Basic picnic facilities, primitive camping, boat ramp and fishing pontoon / jetty, toilets, information directory. Informal riverside walking trails at Four Mile. View and walk across the bridge / views of the Barwon River Bushwalking, camping, picnicking, birdwatching year-round Canoeing / kayaking when river conditions are suitable. In addition, there are several heritage and culturally significant sites in the Shire that attract occasional visitation including the former Brewarrina Aboriginal Mission, Hospital Creek massacre site, Goodooga Reserve and the wreck of the Wandering Jew paddle-steamer. Part of the Narran Lakes Nature Reserve is also located within the Shire, with this area managed by NSW National Parks and Wildlife and generally only open once a year to the public.
