• Book: Breastfeeding Your Baby pages 2 – 11.
• PowerPoint presentation: Breastfeeding Your Baby slides 4 – 26.
• Visual aids: Breastfeeding Poster Set, videos, model breast and demo doll, etc.
• Corresponding activities and handouts from Appendices B and C.
• White board, dry erase markers and eraser.
• Pens or pencils.
Introduction and value of the section
Breastfeeding has tremendous health advantages for both mother and baby. However, not everyone is prepared, educated or supported when it comes to breastfeeding. By providing parents with valuable information and resources, they will have the best chance at a successful breastfeeding relationship.

• Parents will understand the steps they can take to help get breastfeeding started off right.
Goals
• Parents will understand the basic principles of breastfeeding, including the importance of immediate contact with baby at birth, feeding on demand, the importance of a good latch and how to evaluate how well baby is feeding.
