Sponsored by Innovation Birmingham,
this award celebrates achievements in
environmental sustainability.
Winner: BDP – The Enterprise Centre,
University of East Anglia
As a result of the BDP team’s innovative
and collaborative solutions, the
Enterprise Centre pushes the boundaries
of the University of East Anglia’s already
established approach to developing
energy efficient buildings.
This innovative building achieved dual
certification of BREEAM Outstanding and
Passivhaus, and used local materials and
construction, maximised to provide a low
carbon building and help stimulate the
local economy and traditional skills.
It is the first building of its
kind to be wrapped in thatched
timber cassettes as its rain
screen cladding. It’s the first
building in the world to use
Thetford Corsican Pine for
its timber frame. The low-
carbon concrete was a
globally unique mix, and the
design’s attention to detail
achieved an industry leading
0.21 ACH @ 50Pa, driving its
Passivhaus certification.
