Key Events of the period
May 12, 1958—Canada and the U.S. signed the official
documents to establish the North American Air Defence
(NORAD) agreement.
October 1958—The Northern Ontario section of the Trans-
Canada Pipeline is completed, connecting gas transmission
between the Manitoba-Ontario border and Montreal, Quebec.
March 1961—National Defence Medical Centre in Ottawa is
largely completed, months ahead of schedule.
August 1962—The Semi-Automatic Ground Environment
(SAGE) building underground near North Bay was mostly
complete.
