On Nov. 1, 2013, all SNAP
households saw their benefits
reduced. SNAP recipients
received a temporary increase
in monthly benefits as part of
the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act of 2009.
Originally intended to phase
out over time, the increase
ended Nov. 1. SNAP households lost between $1 and $36
per month—a big reduction
for those who rely on this
anti-hunger program. This
automatic cut makes it even
more important for Congress
to reject proposed SNAP cuts
and to protect the program in
the final farm bill or any other
legislation.
*Households of 1 or 2 that qualify for less than $16 have their benefits rounded up to the minimum benefit. That amount will drop to $15 in FY2014.
