projects at Freeport, Ironton-Russell, Masontown, and Lilly Bridge), allowed us to take an aggressive approach to this project. Brayman’s proven capability to self-perform marine-based substructure up through deck placements, teamed with Advantage Steel for the super structure erection, is a winning combination. Congratulations to the VERY hardworking team that worked some long days and weekends to pull it all together! The new four-lane structure will be built upstream, while traffic continues to utilize the 1908 existing truss, two-lane bridge. The approaches will be realigned and upgraded with new signals and landscaping. The new bridge will be approximately 1,600 feet long, resting on three new river piers. Work will start this Fall and continue into 2016, with completion in time for the next U.S. Open at the Oakmont Country Club.

Greensburg Pike
The Greensburg Pike steel erection operation started in 2012, but due to a directive by the railroad, the erection work could not be completed until the early part of 2013. Mike McClafferty and his crew finished the job during the worst possible weather conditions imaginable for such an operation. The final erection work took place at night, over a series of weekends in late March. The team persevered and the work was completed in the required timeframe.

I was very pleased to pull my original article submission for this issue of the Brayman Insider and replace it with this one. On August 1st, we submitted Brayman’s bid for the replacement of the Hulton Bridge and won. It was just under $64.9 million and reflected the tremendous trust
we have in our skilled work force and our desire to maintain work for them. Our extensive knowledge and experience gained from recent results achieved at Apollo, Rumsey, Kanawha, and Ices Ferry (not to mention ongoing

The following is an email that we received from a current client. It was written in regard to standard reporting that Brayman is required to complete, in order to be in compliance with project-specific contracts.
From: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington District Subject: Thank You Dear Ms. Reynolds and Ms. Geither, I am reviewing the subcontracting reports that our large primes submit twice yearly and I want you to know that I appreciate not only your small business subcontracting progress, but also your comments in the ‘Remarks’ section of the reports. I realize that sometimes you use the same comments in each report. But that’s ok because, according to your Small Business (SB) goal progress and your outreach efforts, you truly do mean what you say, each and every time. It is refreshing to evaluate reports that were written by a caring person who actually put thought and effort into achieving the SB goals, possibly even embraces the true spirit of the SB program, and takes seriously the intent of the bi-annual reporting requirements.

made considerable progress with the removal portion of the work. They have been able to access the underside of the structure by using a highly adaptable, pre-engineered scaffold system that can be moved as necessary from underneath the bridge. Also, for the first time, Advantage Steel will handle the blasting and painting of the handrail in-house under the Steel successfully Under the direction of John Ferrari, Advantage Steel’s paint specialist. The project is expected to be completed in two years.
