Message from The President
We must focus on what is Important, Not Urgent. We must strategize and innovate, as a leadership team and as a company, to ensure the future success and adaptability of our business in an ever-changing market and industry.
In my last newsletter article, I recognized our organization’s cultural values of Equity, Urgency, Tenacity and Professionalism. These building blocks of our success continue to drive us forward in this difficult market. We must continue to innovate in the face of adversity and constantly seek new and interesting work. We must focus on what is Important, Not Urgent. What I mean by that is, as a Company, we must focus on the items that must be accomplished to continue moving us toward our goals. It also means on a day-to-day basis, we must keep an eye towards these goals and set aside time to accomplish them by pushing aside the immediate demands that may be sitting directly in front of us on any given day. As you will read in this newsletter, our Leadership Team, the Dragon Slayers, strive to embrace, instill and perpetuate the cultural expectations and philosophical values that are the cornerstone of Brayman’s success. Leadership must ensure that they continue to make the best and most intuitive decisions under immense pressure. As a Company, we must commit to the following standards that create organizational efficiency, effectiveness and success, as part of our everyday life; 1. Ask Questions, Seek Counsel…make yourself better through wisdom of others. 11. Problem Solve; Avoid Procrastination…tackle issues head-on; learn from and don’t avoid uncomfortable circumstance. Getting ahead in life is about doing the things that most people don’t like doing. 12. Positive Energy & Attitude…motivate the team to take action. 13. Be a Great Teacher…always be self-motivated to learn as well as mentor others. 14. Invest in Relationships…associate with others who can broaden our sphere of influence. 15. Genuinely Enjoy Responsibilities…we are in it for the meaningful and purposeful impact we can have. As we consider the ongoing issues caused by the continued absence of a transportation funding bill, at both a State and Federal level, now is the time that we must focus, strategize and innovate as a leadership team and a Company as a whole. As you are aware, in late August, PennDOT Secretary Barry Schoch announced new posted weight restrictions on approximately 1,000 State and Local bridges in order to minimize wear and tear since funding is currently an unknown. With limited resources and a stalled funding increase from the State, it is just more of the same. Our well-paid, full-time legislature now on Summer Recess, have failed to lead yet again. This failure to act has and will continue to cost thousands of Pennsylvanians their jobs as well as a future of improving economic efficiency through a capable transportation system.
