The Makings of
SOMA

Confident Pop is the best way to describe this artist! SOMA uses her musical gift to articulate
the state of mind that is hidden within deep thoughts. Thoughts that can only be expressed
through art. SOMA has found the key and unlock these hidden concepts allowing listeners to
make connections within themselves.
Her latest single, "Dynasty" is genuine along with small takeaways that may be different for
each listener. We were able to catch up with SOMA to uncover the beginnings, get a deep dive
into the single, "Dynasty", and more creative secrets that go into the Makings of SOMA.
BRASH! How and when did you get your start
in the music industry?
SOMA: I've always been strongly drawn
towards expressing myself through music. As a
kid I was obsessed with music videos, involving
dancing. I would mimic the artists' movements
and was certain that I was as impressive as
them. That inner space of love, music and
creation soon became my friend and often the
only one, too. I didn't have the easiest
childhood, and I can see how this inner haven of
dreams and magic, where everything is possible,
would've served my development into a
somewhat functional human being. I think I was
actually “discovered” by my Mom. I used to play
that I was hosting my own radio show; at 10
years-old in her bedroom with her Mom's
portable Boombox tape recorder, recording and
singing all the songs, doing all the jokes and
speeches - and the commercials! I had
accidentally taken one of my Mom's favorite
cassettes and recorded my “show” on top of her
dance songs and that's how I was discovered! I
just kept on doing this in different forms, and
after putting together some semi-professional
demos; I approached all the record labels I knew
in my hometown. I wrote a sincere letter, put in
some photos of myself and a demo tape. Three
days later, a major record label called, and I
believe I signed with them within a couple of
weeks.
