BRASH! During your short hiatus from music, what
discovery has helped in the creative process for
upcoming releases?
AR: After I released my debut EP FunkTrap The
Unveiling I felt like FIIINNNAALLYY it’s out, but at the
same time I still lowkey felt incomplete. Yes, I had
finally put out a body of work that sounded amazing
and I was proud of, but I still felt like it wasn’t the true
essence of what FunkTrap is. Releasing that project
was an eye opener and taught me a great lesson:
Never second guess yourself! I was always trying to
make every song about a relationship in some form
when it didn’t have to be. Instead of just saying “I want
to go home and be by my damn self and smoke a
blunt”, I would always assume it had to make it a
relationship record. Now when I create, I create from
a place of whatever! Whateer I'm feeling, whatever I
want to say, etc because at the end of the day that’s
FunkTrap doing and saying what you want! (As long as
you ain’t hurting nobody lol)
BRASH! What obstacles have you faced thus far in
the music industry?
AR: One of the biggest obstacles I’ve faced in this
industry is expectations. I’ve learned a lot of the
time, this industry moves so funny and different you
can’t expect anything! You can always plan and hope
stuff goes accordingly but at the end of the day you
just gotta be ready for it all. Also, another obstacle I’ve
overcome is becoming my own biggest fan. A lot of
the times we wait for the applause or thumbs up from
others to say ok yeah maybe i am dope, but F that! We
all dope with or without the approval or applause
from others. Once people reach into that mind frame
man we would all be unstoppable and dope together.
BRASH! How do you plan to grow your specific
genre of “Funk Trap” music?
AR: The way I plan on growing FunkTrap as a sound is
just giving the people something fresh for their ears.
It’s important that my fans can grow and evolve with
me and share with others and we all grow as a
massive collective. It’s me basically disrupting
everything and being ok with doing that. My team has
put some great things in motion.
