PANELISTS
Jay Kennedy is an Assistant Professor in the Center for Anti-Counterfeiting and Product Protection ( A-CAPP ) and School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University . He received his Ph . D . in Criminal Justice at the University of Cincinnati , where he was Graduate School Dean ’ s Distinguished Fellow , as well as a Yates Scholar . While at the University of Cincinnati , Jay was awarded a Graduate Minority Fellowship from the American Society of Criminology , and received several research grants and awards . A graduate of the MBA program at the Carl H . Lindner College of Business , University of Cincinnati , his research focuses upon deviance within corporations . Specifically , his research and published works explore issues of employee theft within small businesses , the multi-level antecedents of corporate crime , and the role business ethics plays in decision-making . Prior to attending graduate school , Jay spent just over 8 years working for a number of corporations in the metro Detroit area , including a major non-profit organization , a family-owned automotive supplier , and a Fortune 100 corporation .
Saleem Alhabash is an Assistant Professor of Public Relations and Social Media , jointly appointed by the Department of Advertising and Public Relations , and the Department of Media and Information . His research focuses on the processes and effects of new and social media . More specifically , Saleem ’ s research investigates the cognitive and emotional responses , and psychological effects associated with using social networking sites and playing serious / persuasive video games . His research is geared toward understanding how new communication technologies can be utilized in cross-cultural and international communication , with emphasis on changing attitudes and stereotypes of foreign nations . Saleem received his Ph . D . from the University of Missouri School of Journalism . He brings a diverse experience in global media and strategic communication .
Jeff Bonham is the Director of Brand Protection , Americas at Fitbit , Inc . Jeff has over 15 years of investigative and management experience focusing on internal and external fraud , service abuse and brand protection related investigations . Jeff is currently responsible for leading the Brand Protection efforts for Fitbit ’ s Americas region . In his 2 years at Fitbit , he has handled a wide variety of cases involving counterfeit , grey market , supply chain theft and diverted products . In addition , given the nature of Fitbit ’ s products which can track an individual ’ s vital statistics , he has also managed investigations into homicides , missing persons and other criminal mischief . Prior to Fitbit , Jeff spent 2 years at VMware as the Senior Global Compliance Investigations Manager investigating a variety of occupational fraud matters . Prior to VMware , he was with Cisco Systems for 14 years where he spent the latter years as Senior Manager Investigations , managing service abuse and internal investigations for the Global Ethics , Compliance & Investigations team . Jeff is a Certified Fraud Examiner and a graduate from the University of California – Santa Barbara .
Nate Davis is an In-House Attorney at Whirlpool Corporation , where he is responsible for intellectual property acquisition , enforcement , and defense against third party claims . Nate is also responsible for building and leading Whirlpool ' s Global Brand Protection Team , which protects Whirlpool ' s consumers and brands against counterfeiting . Prior to joining Whirlpool , Nate spent six years in private practice at a law firm specializing in intellectual property litigation and served as a law clerk to the Honorable Sharon Prost at the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit . Nate received a J . D . from the University of California , Berkeley , and an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas A & M University .

Kevin Weaver is the Director of Brand Protection at Johnson & Johnson . He is currently responsible for developing and deploying innovative business and technology solutions that combat the risks associated with illicit trade ( e . g . counterfeits , diversion , tampered , trademark / copyright ) for the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies across the Pharmaceuticals , Medical Devices , and Consumer sectors worldwide . Mr . Weaver has over 25 years of experience working for Johnson & Johnson , Kellogg Company , and Computer Sciences Corporations across various roles developing competencies within information technology , data & analytics , business & market intelligence , supply chain , and strategic planning & architecture . He is a member of the A-CAPP Center Industry Advisory Board and previously served on the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition ( IACC ) Board of Directors along with several other industry and academic positions throughout his career .
