Calling himself an “habitual volunteer” , Chuck feels it’s important to give back to the community. He was also recognized as Brampton Arts Council Arts Person of the Year in 2013. Not only an habitual volunteer but an habitual winner as well! Congratulations, Chuck! On June 20, at 12:00PM, five murals by NORBERT AUGUSTINE will be unveiled in Vivian Lane in downtown Brampton. Installed on the north wall of Cyclepath, each depicts significant Brampton buildings with carved, reflective bicycles. Made possible through the PATF (Public Arts Task Force), these strategically lit murals will offer a unique experience both day and night. An exhibition of Norbert’s work will also be on display at Beaux-Arts from June 13-27. www.norbertaugustine.com GLENN MCFARLANE’s new solo CD “Music and Friends” has been getting a lot of recognition and airplay, both on the airwaves and the internet. As the title implies, “Music and Friends” is a collection of original songs celebrating the two things that are very important to him. The songs are fun and lively folk songs that reflect his East Coast roots, along with strong elements of country, folk-rock and world music. For the 5th year in a row we had a chance to learn about what others are doing. This followed the original idea whereby we are all so busy there was never an opportunity to really discover what oth er members were working on. Post presentation was a chance to connect with people based on what was heard from the podium. And, a chance to enjoy the food and beverages provided. All in all a great member focused event that attracted over 40 people. A total of 13 - 3 minute pitches were delivered. And, as is tradition the light hearted part is that any speaker going over 3 minutes was “gonged” by staff with sounds from a smartphone. And, yes there was at least one instance where this was used! Under the direction of Paul Llew-Williams, music teacher at Fletcher’s Meadow Secondary School, the BRAMPTON YOUTH CHOIR will meet every Tuesday during the school year. A chance for young voices to come together, in harmony, to learn and perform quality music and perform at concerts and other public events.
