Come and meet those dancing feet, On the avenue I ' m taking you to, Forty-Second Street.
( music by Harry Warren, words by Al Dubin)
The upbeat nature of these sentiments encapsulated the spirit of our Free Summer Concert, held on July 21st at the Church of the Resurrection in Grovehill, where an appreciative audience enjoyed an eclectic repertoire ranging from I Will Sing Joy! to Banaha and Keep You in Peace. Three impressive solos showcased the talent within the choir, and the retiring collection for The Liberty Tea Rooms proved to be a fitting finale to a year of fundraising.
The Hullabaloo, held on The Marlowes stage on Saturday, July 25th, saw us perform Feeling Good, A Broadway Song and This Little Light, amongst others. Despite the searing heat, we gave an enthusiastic performance, bringing the Summer Term to an end.
In August, a group of choir members attended the Benslow Music Centre for two days of musicmaking. On Sunday, we held a joint concert with Pirton Community Choir at Holy Saviour Church, Hitchin. On Monday, we learnt a lot at a vocal workshop with the inspirational Sarah Champion. The afternoon brought an energising Gospel Workshop,
culminating in an Open Mic night for choir members. The evening featured numerous acts, including highlights such as a rendition of Sisters, a flute duet, Brown Bird and a Gilbert and Sullivan turn featuring five policemen! This life-enhancing trip gave us the opportunity to collaborate with another choir, enjoy each other’ s company and experience once again the many benefits of singing together.
We can now look forward to our Christmas Concert, which this year will be held on December 21st at 6.30pm at St John’ s Church in Boxmoor.
