“ I will sing joy‘ n’ when I sing joy, it will bring joy. I will sing joy‘ n’ bring it to ev‘ ry girl and boy.”
These words by John Moysen and David Major epitomise the joy of singing.
Building on the success of our Spring Concert in late April, the choir is now busy preparing for the free concert to be held at the Methodist Church in Grovehill on 21st July at 11am. The concert will begin with a lively rendition of the gospel‐rock song“ I Will Sing Joy”, which heralds the“ Gospel Train”( excerpt) later in the programme. The varied repertoire will include both new, ambitious songs such as“ Three Country Dances in One” and“ Rounds Based on the Cries of London Town”, as well as choir favourites including Purcell’ s“ One, Two, Three”,“ Banaha”, and“ 42nd Street”. Three solos slotted into the running order will enhance the audience experience before a rousing encore of“ Rhythm of Life”.
Tuesday mornings in term time from 9.45am to 11.35am.
There are no auditions, and you don’ t have to be able to read music. All are welcome- just come along to any rehearsal and give us a try. In August, a group of us, including some day delegates, will be travelling to Benslow Music Centre, Hitchin, for a joint rehearsal and concert with the Pirton Community Choir. The following day there will be a Vocal Workshop with Sarah Champion, followed by a Gospel Workshop, dinner, and an open‐mic night. I expect we will all be thrilled and exhausted when we return home the next day.
We can then look forward to the first rehearsal of the Autumn term on Tuesday 1st September.
